Alliance Pharma Conference
Alliance Pharmaceuticals planned to stage its first-ever global employee
conference to foster connection and cohesion and unify its global workforce
of 260 around its revised business strategy. TTA was challenged to devise
and deliver a high-impact three-day experience with lower emissions and
waste, embedding sustainable practices at every step of the event lifecycle.
Measures included offsetting emissions from employee travel, deploying
digital solutions over print media, eliminating single-use plastics, maximising
the use of recycled materials, and prioritising independent restaurants and
locally sourced food and beverages in catering.
Trans-continental flights were restricted to economy class, the use of
trains was mandated where practical, and car-sharing was encouraged for
UK colleagues. Apex City of Bath Hotel was chosen for its sustainability
credentials and proximity to the firm’s head office in Wiltshire and walking
tours around the city provided a low-impact way for international colleagues
to experience UK culture and heritage.
TTA recorded the environmental impact of the conference using TRACE, a
carbon emissions and waste measurement platform developed by isla. The
event’s total carbon footprint was 66.05 tCO2e (264 kgCO2e per attendee),
and emissions were offset via the Ecologi climate action platform via carbon
avoidance and reforestation schemes.
Cora McCallum, Alliance’s Head of Investor Relations and Corporate
Communications, said: “Sustainability was very much front of mind, both
in the conference content and organisation – from a lunchtime ‘pop up’ to
increase employee awareness and engagement around our sustainability
strategy, to the catering and travel arrangements for the conference itself. Our
first global conference was very well received by colleagues, and we’re sure
that the benefits will continue to prevail for many years to come.”
